Our Story
It all started in a small workshop in Southern China. Our founder, John, was fascinated with fountain pens from a young age. He loved the elegance of their design and the smooth, expressive way they wrote. As an adult, John decided to turn his passion into a business. In 2005, he opened the doors to the first Asvine® Fountain Pen workshop.
John started out making pens by hand, one at a time. He experimented with different materials and nibs to create pens that wrote beautifully and showcased unique, eye-catching designs. Word of John’s expert craftsmanship quickly spread, and it wasn’t long before Asvine® had customers around the world.
As demand grew, the company expanded into a larger production facility. We purchased advanced machines to aid with mass production while maintaining our focus on quality. Our Workshop
Our workshop in Southern China is the heart and soul of Asvine® Fountain Pen. This 15,000 square foot facility is where pens transition from ideas to physical form. It’s where raw materials get crafted into finished writing instruments ready to be used and loved.
Our talented production team assembles each pen by hand with care and skill. Here are some glimpses of the process:
- Skilled lathe operators start by machining ebonite, acrylic and resin blanks into pen barrels using advanced computerized equipment. They shape each barrel precisely to match our technical specifications. After machining, the barrels are polished by hand to a smooth, lustrous sheen.
- In a separate area, nimble fingers assemble parts like nibs, feeds and filling systems. Workers test each component to ensure perfect fit and function.
- Next, decorative elements are added to bring personality to each design. Artisans apply intricate hand-painted lacquer designs or set sparkling Swarovski crystals into clear acrylic.
- Every pen is individually tested by a quality control expert. They examine the look, feel and writing performance to verify perfection. Pens then get professionally packaged for safe shipping.
While technology helps streamline some processes, hand craftsmanship remains essential. Our staff of over 100 employees includes many highly skilled artisans like engravers, painters and polishers. Their talents elevate each Asvine® Fountain Pen into a work of art.
